Dr Des Fernandes qualified at the Witwatersrand University and then became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons at Edinburgh where he started training in Plastic Surgery but then switched to cardiothoracic surgery.

Advances in Vitamin A Treatment

Dr Des has pioneered the use of Vitamin A in cosmetic products. “The results are now similar to those achieved using retinoic acid for a more convincing rejuvenation of the skin,” he says.

He has also patented the Environ DF iontophoresis and low frequency sonophoresis machine. “We can now achieve results comparable to having fractionated laser treatments,” he says. “These treatments also enhance the effects of Botox injections, and reduce fatty deposits.”

Pioneer work in skin-needling

Dr Fernandes has pioneered skin-needling techniques, which are now internationally recognised as the safest, most effective way of treating lax skin, wrinkles, scars and stretch marks.

Scarless Suturing

He pioneered the suture suspension “scarless” forehead, face and neck lift. Dr Fernandes also developed new techniques for “servicing” facelifts which, he says, helps maintain the best result for extended periods.
